Interesting. An old (dead) project still has relevance

Take it to the forest, survey tree stands

o With GPS , drag trees, walk line, take pictures, jot a few notes…that’s it. In performing those simple tasks, National Forest Service employees can delineate exactly how a tree stand looks, what species are in it, in what ratios, and how healthy the trees are, and the GPS utility can precisely define the area and location of the tree stand. This can cut worktime in half or more. Moreover, prototype software has been made by the forest service that contains preset descriptions easily tailored to various stands and conditions. This can be easily tailored for the Tablet PC. – I know of some people that have actually begun using the tablet to create similar landcover databases.

{Ed: This really isn’t land development, but there are land dev possibilities too}
